Pay Scale Pay Level-7 (44900-142400) of pay matrix under CCS (RP) Rules, 2016. Total emoluments excluding T.A. & HRA at the time of initial appointment will be Rs.44900/- plus DA as applicable per month


Age Not exceeding 30 years as on normal closing date. Relaxable for regularly appointed Central/UTs Govt. Servants upto 5 years as per instructions/orders issued by the Govt. of India from time to time. Eligibility Criteria:

A. Educational- Masters Degree in Chemistry or Associateship diploma of the Institution of Chemist by examination* or Biochemistry or Pharmacology or Pharmacy or Forensic Science with Chemistry as one of the subjects during all the three years of Bachelors of Science level from a recognized University.

NOTE 1 * Associateship diploma of the Institution of Chemist by examination qualification will be applicable only for the departmental scientists available on the date of notification of the RR.(amendment).


NOTE 2 * The candidates who were enrolled for the Associateship diploma of the Institution of Chemist by examination upto 31.05.2013 are only eligible for consideration to the post of Junior Scientific Officer (Toxicology) for Direct Recruitment and the candidates who have enrolled on or after 01.06.2013 for Associateship diploma of the Institution of Chemist by examination are not eligible for consideration to the post of Junior Scientific Officer (Toxicology).

NOTE 3 Qualifications are relaxable at the discretion of the UPSC for reasons to be recorded in writing in case of candidates otherwise well qualified.

Experience– Three(03) years of experience in research and analytical work in the field of Toxicology in any central and state organization or recognized institute or university or forensic Science laboratory under the Central Government and State Government.


Desirable Qualification Experience of working in a Forensic Science Laboratory.


Duties Crime Case Examination, giving evidence in the Courts of Law, Crime Scene Examination, providing guidance to the junior scientific staff for case analysis, R&D activities on Forensic Activities and imparting training in their respective field of forensic specialization to the trainees from different investigating agencies/forensic science labs and other organizations.

Probation 02(Two) Years


Headquarters is at New Delhi with Laboratories at Chandigarh/Kolkata/Hyderabad/Kamrup(Assam)/Pune/Bhopal. In connection with performing his/her duties, the officer may be required to serve in any part of India.


Other Details General Central Service Group ‘B’, Gazetted, Non-Ministerial. The post is permanent.


Any Other Conditions


1. Leprosy Cured persons are suitable for the post of Junior Scientific Officer (Toxicology) subject to the condition that their upper limbs are functioning normally.


2. Acid attack victims are suitable for the post of Junior Scientific Officer (Toxicology) provided that their vision and hearing have not been impaired.
