For the purpose of choosing students for PhD programmes, certain universities hold admission tests. There is no necessity for a UGC NET certificate from universities that hold entrance tests. A valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is mandatory for PhD candidates in technical subjects including engineering and technology.
