Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh was not directly involved in the Indo-Pakistani conflicts in 1965 and 1971. However, it played a role in the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, with the district ruler, Raja Narpati Singh, leading resistance against the British. The 1857 Sepoy Mutiny:
- Raja Narpati Singh of Hardoi and his army attacked British forces at Mallawan, the district headquarters, in June 1857.
- The attack led to the District Commissioner escaping, and Hardoi briefly became free of British rule.
- In April 1858, the British retaliated and attacked Raja Narpati at the Ruia Fort in Ruia Garhi village.
- The battle lasted for nearly a year and a half, with Raja Narpati Singh eventually martyred in 1858.
- A memorial statue of Raja Narpati Singh was installed in Ruia Garhi to commemorate his bravery and the other soldiers who died in the battle. Indo-Pakistani Conflicts:
- Hardoi district is not located near the border with Pakistan, so it was not directly involved in the 1965 or 1971 Indo-Pakistani wars.
