Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh | March 29, 2026

In a proud moment for Unnao district, a young research scholar Swati Singh has successfully completed her Ph.D. viva from , marking a significant achievement in the field of plant science.

The scholar, who completed her M.Sc. in Botany from , has been working in the area of plant nutrition and stress physiology. Her doctoral research focused on the effects of hazardous materials on medicinal plants and their alleviation using biochemical treatments and chelating agents.

During her research, she conducted extensive experiments on medicinal plants such as Ocimum sanctum (Tulsi) and Catharanthus roseus (Sadabahar), both known for their high medicinal value. In addition, she studied important crop plants including wheat, maize, chickpea, lentil, and vigna to understand stress responses under adverse environmental conditions.

Her work highlights how harmful environmental pollutants impact plant growth, metabolism, and medicinal quality. Importantly, her research demonstrates that the use of specific biochemicals and chelates can help reduce stress effects, thereby improving plant health and productivity.

The Ph.D. viva was successfully completed yesterday, where experts appreciated her research for its scientific depth, practical relevance, and contribution to sustainable agriculture and medicinal plant conservation.

Hailing from Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, her achievement is an inspiration for students, especially from rural areas, who aspire to pursue higher education and research in science.

Her work is expected to contribute to future advancements in eco-friendly agricultural practices and the protection of medicinal plants in polluted environments.
